The Country Summer Polo Cup: Tradition and International Spirit in St. Moritz

From July 24 to 26, St. Moritz hosted the traditional Country Summer Polo Cup, welcoming players and guests from around the world. Among them was Elchin Camalli, captain of the Azerbaijan Polo Team, who joined an international lineup that reflected the global reach and prestige of the event.

Team Presentation

The tournament began with a stylish team presentation during an Aperol reception at one of St. Moritz’s most iconic venues — the Chesa Veglia terrace overlooking the lake and the city’s historic hotels. The evening was hosted by Daniela Märky, President of the St. Moritz Polo Club, alongside Reto Gaudenzi, who shared the club’s rich history and origins. Distinguished guests included Piero Dillier, President of the Federation of International Polo (FIP), as well as sponsors and partners who support the tournament’s continued success.

Atmosphere

Throughout the weekend, the event combined sport and lifestyle in true St. Moritz fashion. A live DJ set the tone with upbeat remixes, while bars served champagne and cocktails to a lively crowd. Food stalls offered freshly prepared dishes, and boutique stands showcased clothing, wellness products, and equestrian accessories.
Friday featured a traditional asado for players and guests, followed by Saturday’s Aperol gathering and dinner at the elegant Hotel Steffani. Despite Sunday’s rain, the indoor hospitality area remained full, proving once again that polo in St. Moritz is as much about community as competition.

Activities for Children

Families enjoyed a dedicated children’s area with supervised pony rides and a charming selection of equestrian‑themed toys and teddy bears — a thoughtful touch that brought the sport closer to its youngest fans.

Matches

The semifinal unfolded under heavy rain, adding challenge and drama to the game. Team Auto Mathias AG started strong with a three‑goal lead over Grace La Magna, but Grace La Magna mounted an impressive comeback to secure victory in the second chukka.
The final was equally thrilling. Although the rain had stopped, the wet field led officials to decide the championship through a penalty shootout from 30 and 60 meters. Wüst & Wüst triumphed over Conrad Sortz AG 3‑2, claiming the title and closing the tournament on a high note.

A Celebration of Polo

The Country Summer Polo Cup once again highlighted St. Moritz’s unique blend of tradition, elegance, and international spirit. With its breathtaking alpine setting and world‑class organization, the event reaffirmed the city’s status as one of Europe’s most distinguished polo destinations.
