Dubai secured the High Handicap Gold Cup at Ayala Polo Club for the fifth time in its history this Saturday after defeating Sainte Mesme 16-9 in the final played on Field 3 at Los Pinos. Founded by Ali Albwardi, the team returns to the top after three years, following their previous victory in 2023 with Bartolomé Castagnola in the lineup. Meanwhile, Vamos Korea took the Low Handicap title by overcoming Santa Quiteria 12-8.
Dubai dominated the High Handicap final from the second chukker onward. Although Sainte Mesme closed the gap to 4-3 in the opening chukker, Dubai elevated their intensity, game control, and execution from the second period. Sixteen-year-old Pedro Chavanne delivered a breakout performance, while Gonzalo Ferrari—named Most Valuable Player of the final—played a key role across all areas of the field. Bartolomé Castagnola, returning to the Dubai jersey after three seasons, reaffirmed his status as one of the world’s top two players.
Sainte Mesme fought until the final bell during their first appearance in the Gold Cup final, concluding a memorable August campaign in which they defeated several of the tournament’s top contenders. The victory marks Castagnola’s third High Handicap Gold Cup title with Ayala Polo Club, while his teammates achieved their first. The win also provided redemption for Castagnola and Gonzalo Entrecanales, who had previously lost the final together in 2024.
