A Conversation with Organizer Reto Gaudenzi
We had the pleasure of speaking with Reto Gaudenzi, the driving force behind this ambitious project. Gaudenzi shared his excitement and the hard work that has gone into making this event a reality. “Working hard with our partners in Singureni and the whole team to start polo in Romania, everything is on track. Many tickets have been sold, and we can’t wait for the first game on October 11th!” he exclaimed.
Bringing Polo to a New Audience
Gaudenzi expressed his enthusiasm about introducing polo to a new audience in Romania, a country with a rich tradition in sports and horse culture. “It is a great feeling to bring the great sport of polo to a polo virgin country!” he said. The event is expected to ignite a passion for polo in Romania, with plans already underway to establish the country’s first polo school due to high demand.
The Oldest Team Sport in the World
Polo, often referred to as the “Sport of Kings” and the “King of Sports,” is the oldest team sport in the world. Romania, with its deep-rooted equestrian traditions, is a fitting new home for this noble sport. The tournament will feature two professional players and one patron per team, ensuring high-level competition.
Spectacular Arena Polo Tournament
The tournament will be held in a specially constructed arena measuring 120 x 50 meters, complete with boards to keep the action close to the spectators. This setup promises an exhilarating experience for attendees, who will be able to witness the fast-paced action up close. In the future, there are plans to build a full-size polo field to accommodate even larger events.
International Teams and World-Class Horses
Four world-class teams will compete in this premiere event, with horses rented from France to ensure top-quality competition. The teams will bring their expertise and passion for polo, making this a must-see event for sports enthusiasts.
