C.V. Whitney Cup 2026: Tradition, Prestige, and the Start of the Gauntlet of Polo

The high-goal polo season in the United States ignites once again at the National Polo Center in Wellington with the C.V. Whitney Cup 2026, the tournament that opens the Gauntlet of Polo and brings together the best international teams and players.

Nine teams will compete across three brackets in a dynamic format: each team will play two qualifying matches, semifinals will be drawn by lot, and the grand final will feature the two strongest sides from the earlier stages. La Dolfina Tamera returns hungry for victory, defending its title with Adolfo Cambiaso leading the charge to continue writing history in this prestigious competition.

A tournament with weight of its own
Originally created as the U.S. Handicap and renamed in 1988 in honor of C.V. “Sonny” Whitney, the C.V. Whitney Cup has established itself as one of the most prestigious competitions in the North American calendar. Today, it stands as an independent tournament and the first of the three major events of the Gauntlet of Polo, alongside the USPA Gold Cup and the U.S. Open Polo Championship.

As always in Wellington, no match is ever routine.
