The New South Wales Polo Association, in collaboration with Philipp Müller, patron of the Standing Rock Polo Team, proudly announces the creation of the “Standing Rock Fair Play Award.” This prestigious accolade will recognize the team that best demonstrates exceptional sportsmanship, conduct, and horsemanship throughout the three autumn high-goal tournaments: Ellerston, Garangula, and the Morton Cup.
The award will be determined through a points-based system, with umpires and the tournament committee evaluating teams in every game. The team achieving the highest average score, adjusted for the number of games played, will be crowned the recipient. This ensures fairness and inclusivity across all tournaments. The trophy will be presented during the Morton Cup final.
This initiative isn’t isolated, as similar Standing Rock Fair Play Awards are already presented in England (Victor Ludorum series), France (Chantilly), and New Zealand (NZ Open). These awards embody values of camaraderie, respect, and commitment to horse welfare both on and off the field.
Teams will be judged on various criteria, including exemplary sportsmanship (e.g., respecting opponents and umpires), maintaining discipline, and showing proper care for ponies. Such standards reflect the core values of Standing Rock Polo Team, led by Swiss patron Philipp Müller, who has campaigned successfully in Europe and the UK for years.
The Standing Rock Fair Play Award aims to set a benchmark in the polo world, celebrating the spirit of the game while fostering respect, teamwork, and dedication.
