Exclusive Interview with Philipp Müller at the Ellerston Tournament in Australia

We had the privilege of speaking with Philipp Müller, one of the standout players at this year’s prestigious Ellerston Tournament in Australia. Philipp shared his thoughts on the unique experience of competing at Ellerston, the strategies his team adopted, and the influence of this iconic event on global polo.

Standing Rock Polo Team

Q1: How does competing in the prestigious Ellerston Tournament challenge and inspire you as a player?

A1: When you make your way to Ellerston in the middle of nowhere and you arrive at Ellerston (no pictures allowed), you think you are in Disneyland for polo players. I have never seen a place like that with all the infrastructure, 6 perfect polo fields, and very competitive polo. And then playing on Homefield, the number one ground, is like a dream come true. You think you play on a carpet, and many people say it is one of the best fields in the world. A privilege and truly inspiring for every polo player. Playing at Ellerston should be on the top of the bucket list of every amateur player.

Q2: What strategies or preparations have you and your team focused on for this year’s Kerry Packer Challenge Cup?

A2: Like most teams, we did not have a lot of time to practice after the summer break here in Australia. Playing disciplined as a team when going on the field and being well mounted are key. The plan was to play with at least two Australian players in the team, Lachie Gilmore and Ruki Bailleu, who are familiar with playing this tournament. With Ruki, a former 8-goaler, we have a strong and experienced leader.

Q3: How do you see the role of tournaments like Ellerston in shaping the future of polo on a global scale?

With Ellerston, Kerry Packer has set a new standard in the world of polo. This tournament here on such perfect grounds will continue to play a significant role for sure. Ellerston is still a textbook example today for everyone who wants to build a new polo club and to organize tournaments on the best possible level. There could not be a better way to promote this sport.

Philipp’s insights highlight the unique charm and challenges of competing in one of the most exclusive polo tournaments. As players and fans gather to celebrate the sport at Ellerston, it’s clear this event remains a pillar of excellence and innovation in polo. Stay tuned for more updates from the Kerry Packer Challenge Cup at Ellerston!
