En el año 2001, tras la partida de Cambiaso y Castagnola para formar La Dolfina en 2000, Ellerstina Telefónica se reinventó con la incorporación del joven Gonzalito Pieres, de apenas 18 años. Junto a los tres hermanos Novillo Astrada, el equipo alcanzó un impresionante handicap de 35 goles y compitió en la Triple Corona tanto en 2001 como en 2002.
En ese 2001, la camiseta de Ellerstina era Nike y tenía el logo en el cuello, marcando la única intervención de la marca deportiva en el polo en esa época.
Años más tarde, la marca norteamericana también hizo acciones con Facundo Pieres, quien utilizaba indumentaria de Nike. En 2021, La Dolfina tuvo una alianza con Nike, donde los jugadores usaban zapatillas deportivas de la marca durante sus entrenamientos, consolidando aún más la presencia de Nike en el polo.
En 2003, el equipo cambió a jugar con Pablo y Matías Mac Donough y se fortaleció aún más con la adición de Facundo Pieres, elevando el nivel de juego y consolidando a Ellerstina como uno de los equipos más competitivos del polo.
Los Novillo Astrada volvieron a La Aguada, donde se sumó Nacho Novillo Astrada y ese mismo año ganaron la Triple Corona con La Aguada Passat y Puma como indumentaria oficial.
Nike’s Participation in Argentine Polo
In 2001, after Cambiaso and Castagnola left to form La Dolfina in 2000, Ellerstina Telefónica redefined itself by bringing in the young Gonzalito Pieres, who was just 17 years old. Teaming up with the three Novillo Astrada brothers, they formed a team with an impressive 35-goal handicap and competed in the Triple Crown in both 2001 and 2002.
In that 2001 season, Ellerstina’s jersey was Nike-branded, with the logo on the collar, marking the only intervention of the sports brand in polo at that time.
Years later, the North American brand also collaborated with Facundo Pieres, who wore Nike apparel. In 2021, La Dolfina formed an alliance with Nike, where players used Nike sports shoes during their training, further consolidating Nike’s presence in polo.
By 2003, the team was restructured to play with Pablo and Matías Mac Donough and further strengthened with the addition of Facundo Pieres, elevating the level of play and solidifying Ellerstina as one of the most competitive teams in polo.
The Novillo Astrada brothers returned to La Aguada, where Nacho Novillo Astrada joined, and that same year they won the Triple Crown with La Aguada Passat.
